Please! No condiments in the Bathroom!
I am currently living with a double-stuffed kind of crazy. First of all, our dingy, LA flat consists of two rooms - the main room and the bathroom. So, my awesome, Autistic daughter will take her doll babies into the bathroom to play. I’m not crazy about it, but whatever. It makes her happy and don’t hurt nobody.
No harm - no dead chicken.
And, as nuts as it may sound, even a 5 year old needs some space sometimes. Lord knows I do!
*Dice shaking* “Come on 7’s! Momma needs a new pair of bedrooms!”
But, her newest of obsessions is the wrongly cancelled tv show ‘Invasion’. If it’s been cancelled, how has she become obsessed, you ask? Obviously, the magic of the DVD box set! I made the purchase as a Happy birthday/ Happy Hannukah/ Happy fucking Boxing day to me gift. Sadly for me, it’s been taken over to the point that I may be forced to run down Shawn Cassidy with my car!
Um, well, as soon as I get a car anyway.
I mean, I love the show. I bought it after all. For me! But, my damn!
Well, I’m sure you’re all wondering what these two oddities have to do with one another. It’s simple, folks. All of her doll babies have names already - Karen 1, Karen 2, Karen 3, 4 & 5 and Doug 1, 2, & 3 (Doug & Karen from ‘The Grudge’. Oy.)
So, having no new doll babies to name she’s resorted to naming our various condiment bottles after the characters on ‘Invasion’. One day the salt shaker-grinder-thing will be “Daddy Tom” and the pepper shaker-grinder-thing will be “Russell”. Or, the honey jar shaped like a teddy bear might be “Dave” or “Lewis”.
Okaaayyyyyy………….
Alright, so I do let her play in the bathroom, but damn it! I’d really just like to use the facilities without her screaming -
“Mommy! Don’t step on Daddy Tom!!!”
Aww hearing it sounds cute, I’m sure it’s annoying.
I don’t have a child with Autism so I don’t know how it is personally. But my daughter is ten months old and she likes to go to the keyboard, she won’t listen when I tell her not to touch and one day I looked away and she grabbed the shift key and ripped it right off. Thinking back now it’s funny but at the time I was frustrated.
Do you keep a journal (besides here?) So you could show her when she’s older and maybe you could both laugh.
There was a blog on here that I read a few weeks ago, the writer was about 33 and had Autism. It was really neat to read their point of view. To see what a brilliant writer they were and to read what’s going on in their head. I may be able to find it again if you’re interested.
Hope you have a good day.
Thanks for the tip on the other blog. I’d be really interested in reading it! Yes, she’s on odd bird, but really keeps things interesting. Normally, I write out blog posts in Word and save it to my hard drive, but until I get the laptop fixed (fingers crossed - next week!) I have to hope this site doesn’t crash! LOL Thanks for coming by - I’lol try to stop by yours when I get the comp fixed!
